As with many others, I found myself a bit curious about the new "Google" of China, created by the Xinhua news agency and China Mobile, both arms of the Chinese government.
So I decided to break this puppy in, and see just how far I could get with it...
I searched for the term "liberal," unsurprisingly, I found sparing references to liberalization of countries that China doesn't look too negatively upon.
I decided next, it would be fun to search for "fascist," which heeded nothing more than a few disparate Xinhua articles that focused on any nation other than China...no surprise there either.
Finally, I searched for "fascist dictatorship in china." Oh BOY did I ever come upon a gem!! It would seem that while China needs to work on their propaganda-pushing heuristics, this one definitely hit a chord! Crammed in between every third result (every third being an article designed to make other nations look bad) was a lengthy diatribe that was reproduced in endless repetition on thousands of web sites written by the "Information Office of the State Council Of the People's Republic of China"... which may as well have simply referred to itself as the "Mouthpiece Propaganda Council for the Endless Perpetuation of Brainwashing in China."
Lovely little excerpts like these really hooked me:
Greatly treasuring this hard-won achievement, the Chinese government and people have spared no effort to safeguard human rights and steadily improve their human rights situation, and have achieved remarkable results. This has won full confirmation and fair appraisal from all people who have a real understanding of Chinese conditions and who are not prejudiced.
As a developing country, China has suffered from setbacks while safeguarding and developing human rights. Although much has been achieved in this regard, there is still much room for improvement. It remains a long-term historical task for the Chinese people and government to continue to promote human rights and strive for the noble goal of full implementation of human rights as required by China's socialism.
Really China? It takes time to stop imprisoning people for merely questioning the rule of law? It takes time to stop murdering monks because you want to lay claim to a nation not because you need it for anything, but just because you need it to resolve your penis envy??
Since the very day of its founding, the Communist Party of China has been holding high the banner of democracy and human rights.
Hello. My name is Bill Gates, I would like to introduce to you my bestest friend, Superman. Perhaps we can have high tea with the Queen of England today and celebrate the creation of happy glitter, which we shall share with the peoples of the world and live forever in the colorful plateau of eternal celebration!
Socialist China eliminated the system of exploitation of man by man, thus making it possible for the first time in history for all working people to secure the right to equal economic development.
Not even gonna bother with that one.
Point blank China, you're ridiculousness isn't lost on your own people, and certainly isn't lost on us.
I invite all to go to Panguso.com and join in on the fun! And remember, the more of us who consistently search for anti-propogandist statements on their search engine, the more Chinese security personnel who will be busy investigating us to determine if we're rogue Chinese dissidents, and the more time we waste, the better for the real dissidents.
Extra points to anyone who manages to bounce their traffic through a Chinese IP address, which would only intensify their investigative efforts!
